Andal's Sanga Thamizh Malai - by Dr. Vyjayantimala Bali.
This DVD is re-created from old live video recordings of Dr. Vyjayantimala Bali, a Bharatanatyam artiste of repute.
In a solo Bharatanatyam recital she takes us through the delights of Sri Aandaal's Thiruppavai which permeates the cool pre-dawn air in the Tamil month of Markazhi.
Dr. Bali employs all the copybook techniques in Bharatanatyam repertoire to bring alive the 30 hymns of this divine work in an arresting and authentic manner. Each lap of the recital is preceded by the artiste's lucid explanation of the scenario, characters, rich imagery and the profound meaning of Thiruppavai verses. Another highlight of the product is the introductory speech by Dr. M. A. Venkatakrishnan, a renowned scholar and Professor of Vaishnavism, University of Madras.
